Le Glorieux was built in Rochefort in 1756 from plans drawn by
Clairin-Delsaupiers, with a copper sheathed hull. In 1779 this 74 gun beauty
was among the ships in the Comte d'Estaing's Squadron, also known as the
American Squadron. She was part of the Blue Fleet, whose flagship was
La Couronne, taking part in blockading British ships in the final stages of the
American Revolution. A truly beautiful ship, she will be a worthy showpiece
in a model collection, or by herself.
